VIRAL-MI for patients & relatives

Welcome to the VIRAL-MI Patient & Family Portal

This section is dedicated to helping you understand the VIRAL-MI project in clear, patient-friendly language. Whether you're a patient or a family member, here you'll find resources to guide you through what this research means for you and your loved ones.

Understanding

VIRAL-MI investigates how viral infections and inflammatory responses affect mental health, and why some people recover more easily than others. Our goal is to help identify biological and environmental factors that influence vulnerability or resilience to mental illness.

What is VIRAL-MI about?
VIRAL-MI is a research project that looks at how viral infections (like the flu or COVID-19) can affect mental health. Sometimes, people feel low, anxious, or struggle after an infection. Others recover more easily. We want to understand why this happens, and what makes some people more resilient than others.

Why is this important for you?
By learning more, we hope to:

  • Spot early signs that someone may be at risk

  • Find better ways to support patients and families during recovery

  • Develop new tools and treatments that can improve mental health care in the future

Our goal is to make sure patients and their loved ones feel better supported, both during and after illness.
